Any state with a fraction of .50 gymnast or higher rounded up. Any with a fraction of .49 or less rounded down. A foreign athlete is eligible to compete at Level 8 Regionals as long as an additional gymnast from that state is accepted to Level 8 Regionals. The foreign athlete would receive duplicate awards at Regionals. Foreign athletes would be in addition to the above numbers.
Notes from Nancy -
Recently I attended the State Chair Workshop and Open National Meet in Orlando, Florida. The meet was awesome and had doubled in size since last year. Region 8 won the National Level 8 Title! Competition was awesome! Sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone and do something fun, exciting, and educational. Open Championships is a great meet in a family environment. Disney World - what better place to celebrate our great sport? Also, please think about attending Region 8 Congress. Just when we think we know it all, we learn something new and exciting that can strengthen our program. Old habits are hard to adjust. New habits just might make a program easier and more appealing to new and old clients. Retention of clients, as we know, is so very important.
Notes from State Chair Meeting:
Here are some notes I thought you might find helpful or interesting:
Xcel grew from 8,273 registered athletes in 2010-11 to 12,146 registered athletes in the 2011-12 season. Level 3 grew from 2,562 to 7,214 for the same time period. Level 4's grew by 1,000 and we lost 800 Level 5's. Numbers were down in all other optional levels.
In the near future, we will all have the same professional expiration date. Whenever you renew, your new expiration date will be July 31st. Do not panic, you will never lose months, but will gain them to get you to July 31st.
All meet sanctions will be $85 from now on. There is no longer a distinction between a $50 and a $100 dollar sanction fee.
Please note: We were told that as of 2013, Rules and Policies will dictate what credentials you must have to coach championship meets. Most of the credentials will be gained through the online gymnastics certification courses. Note: many of these courses receive college credit. There are strategies to facilitate certifications including: accountability, credibility, visibility, and opportunity. You will find out more about this at Regional and National Congress and in the upcoming Technique Magazine.
Note - especially for compulsory coaches: Beginning August 1, 2012, only one athlete at a time is allowed to warm up on equipment, i.e. two athletes cannot warm-up on bars at the same time.
AAI soft rails will be used at 2014 nationals.
Region 8 Meeting:
We will continue to use the Xcel rules that are now in place. In 2013, the Xcel program will be national and be dictated by USA Gymnastics. New compulsory routines and Xcel guidelines will be used beginning in the fall of 2013.
Thank You from Mary Thacker, MS SJD
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you so much for the donation that MS USAG made in behalf of the medical needs for Teri. The contribution has been deposited to a benefit account for Teri and will be used to help offset her medical bills.
Please express her gratitude to everyone. Thanks.
